OASis: Disappearing Landscapes Residency (Slovakia)

Text of the call with a textured painting on mountains.

The European project OASIS is calling for applications from artists for an international art residency from 14 to 22 August 2026 in the High Tatras, where artists, youth culture and alternative creative spaces unite to respond to the rapid loss of Carpathian landscapes, wildlife habitats and authentic mountain life.

The High Tatras and surrounding Carpathian landscapes are rapidly changing under the pressure of uncontrolled construction, expansion of tourism infrastructure and fragmentation of natural habitats. Forest ecosystems and wildlife migration corridors are disappearing, rivers are drying up, and mountain landscapes are increasingly transformed into commercial recreational zones.

Art Residency Disappearing Landscape is a unique opportunity to explore how art and independent culture can reflet on and communicate about the rapid degradation of the Carpathian landscape.

Association for Nature Conservation – Machaon International with the youth cultural initiative Kolaj 22 and Ukrainian-Slovak HUB wish to connect environmental awareness with youth culture, music and alternative artistic spaces. The project believes that culture and art can help engage new audiences on environmental issues in the High Tatras region, especially young people who are often outside traditional institutional formats.

The project invites visual artists, musicians, filmmakers, photographers and interdisciplinary creators to participate in our art residency with their projects addressing environmental change, disappearing landscapes and the relationship between culture, community and activism.
