“Atmospheric Waves” seeks original concepts and ideas for sound art works that respond to the wind and climate conditions of Liepaja on the western coast of Latvia. “Atmospheric Waves” is a festival dedicated to embracing the many aspects of wind through the diverse fields of sound art, public engagement and sensorial cultures of listening.
The “Atmospheric Waves” exhibition will take the form of 5 selected installations and/or interactive (digital) artworks that will be available to the public, for the “Liepaja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme. The installation projects should clearly address the core themes of “Atmospheric Waves”. Whether it is through aeolian effects or sonification of the wind and climate conditions of Liepaja, the organisers want to encourage listening as a way of learning and knowing about local climate.
The festival is seeking original artworks for a public-space exhibition that engage with the wind, climate, and environment of Liepāja and invite audiences to experience them through listening and sensory engagement.
The open call will select 5 art projects, which will be exhibited at the former KURSA factory grounds in Liepāja from May to November 2027.
Selected projects will receive production funding and artist fees, as well as the opportunity to take part in a production residency:
- Production Budget up to € 3,500 per project (including technical set-up and transportation costs)
- Artist Fee of €1,500 per project
- Production Residency with accommodation from April 5 – May 12, 2027
