The University of Lille, with the support of the Hauts-de-France Region and in partnership with Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains, has launched a call for applications for the AIRLab residency (Artist in Immersion Research in a Laboratory) for the 2026–2027 academic year.
AIRLab is a one-year residency programme designed to foster collaboration between an artist or collective and a research laboratory at the University of Lille. It supports interdisciplinary dialogue between artistic creation and scientific research, encouraging the crossing of knowledge and practices, and the development of new forms of mediation and dissemination of research.
The residency supports a research and creation process structured in three phases: an immersion period within a laboratory, a production phase leading to the creation of an original work (October 2026 to June 2027), and a public presentation phase (from October 2027 onwards).
The call is open to artists working in fields such as visual, graphic, audiovisual, theatrical, choreographic, musical or literary creation. Applicants must propose a project in connection with a research unit of the university.
The selected artist will receive a lump sum of 10,000 EUR, covering the overall residency including creation, visibility and mediation activities. A production budget of up to 5,000 EUR is also available. Technical resources may be provided by the partners, including access to specialised equipment.
