State of the Art Network (SOTAN) is a Nordic-Baltic transdisciplinary network of artists, practitioners, researchers, and organisations who have come together to discuss the role, responsibility, and potential of art and culture in the Anthropocene.
By developing creative practices, transdisciplinary collaborations, and public engagement, the network aims to create resilience and concrete actions for living the change in culture, economy, and environment, and to find concrete hands-on methods to deal with the Anthropocene and environmental crisis.
Three new opportunities are being launched by SOTAN partners, open for artists and scholars:
- ‘The Rewilding and Earth Making Tour’: An eight-day tour and festival on the Faroe Islands with excursions, hikes, conversations, and workshops in Koltur, Tórshavn and Syðrugøta from 11-18 July 2022. Remote participation possible.
- Turfiction: In collaboration with the Research Project Turfiction, University of Iceland, a week-long workshop (10-16 July 2022) including fieldwork in Iceland, approaching architecture and design for a multispecies future.
- More-than-Human Ecologies symposium: Organised by RIXC Centre for New Media Culture in Latvia, a transdisciplinary symposium with workshops and discussions running from 10-13 June 2022.
The selected participants will be provided with accommodation, travel, and food/subsistence. Online participants will be provided with workshop materials upon request.
