Polygona Kunstverein: Passage Art Residency Programme 2026 in Photography and Film (Germany)

Title of the call on various-coloured background.

The Polygona Kunstverein e.V. invites applications for two artist-in-residence positions as part of the KOBRA Cultural Network’s Passage Art-Residency-Programme in the Wittenberg region, Germany.

This four-week residency (October 2026) brings together artists working in photography and film to engage with two distinct research contexts:

Theme One: Ferropolis, Zschornewitz power station. A former coal-fired power plant once among the most powerful in the world, now a preserved industrial monument in transition. The residency invites reflections on energy, industrial heritage, transformation, and future uses of post-industrial landscapes.

Theme Two: Research Library for Reformation Studies Wittenberg. A unique collection of around 230,000 volumes, including rare manuscripts and early printed works. The residency explores the library as a space of knowledge production, visual culture, and historical ways of seeing the world.

What is required:

  • Development of an artistic project
  • One-day workshop with local youth
  • Public artist talk
  • Participation in a documentary film
  • Submission of 10 project photographs for documentation

Artists are encouraged to respond to processes of transformation (industrial, ecological, historical, and cultural) through photographic and moving image practices.

What the residency offers:

  • 4-week stay in October 2026 (Wittenberg region)
  • 5,000 EUR grant per residency
  • Accommodation provided
  • Additional 1,000 EUR childcare support (if applicable)
