    CIMAM’s 2021 conference, ‘Under Pressure. Museums in Times of Xenophobia and Climate Emergency’, will be held in Lodz and Gdansk, Poland from 5-7 November 2021. Grants are available to support in-person or online attendance for individuals residing in the countries of the former Soviet Union, the Northeast Asia region, the African continent, Spain, and the Eurasian Economic Union.

    News / i-Portunus Mobility Programme: Call for Music and Cultural Heritage Sectors

    i-Portunus supports the mobility (physical and, if necessary, virtual) of artists, creators and cultural professionals among Creative Europe countries. Its main focus is to connect artists and support international collaborations. The current call is open to composers, musicians and singers, as well as artists, creators and cultural professionals active in cultural heritage, residing in a Creative Europe country. Individuals or groups of up to 5 people can apply.

    Tranzit.cz has announced an open call for new curatorial working group members for the next edition of the Biennale Ve věci umění / Matter of Art (VVUMOA), which will take place in Prague in June 2022. The group will work over two years to develop a conception of the biennale edition for 2022 within the context of debates on ‘decolonisation’. Individuals and teams can apply.

  • News / Reimagining Museums for Climate Action

    In the lead-up to COP26, Reimagining Museums for Climate Action is inviting concept and design proposals that radically reimagine the museum as an institution to help shape meaningful climate action. The idea is to explore how rethinking the design, purpose and experience of museums can help society make the deep, transformative changes needed to achieve a net-zero or zero-carbon world. Eight competition winners will receive a grant to develop their ideas for an exhibition at Glasgow Science Centre ahead of and during COP26 in 2021. Deadline (registration): 31 July 2020.

    The Goethe-Instituts in Africa are launching a networking and self-driven learning programme for museums in Africa. The project is based on a peer to peer learning approach, aiming at accessing knowledge within different museum structures to develop future concepts for museum work in Africa. For this project, which will be steered from Johannesburg, but implemented in different countries on the continent the Goethe-Institut are looking for a project manager. Deadline: 10 May 2020.

    The Humanities, Creation, Heritage University Research School at the CY Cergy Paris University is inviting applications for practice- and project-led PhDs starting in the 2020 academic year. There are six strands: Applications should be made to one of six strands: Practice and theory of literary creation; Architecture; Landscape; Arts; Heritage conversation-restoration; Heritage studies. Applications are only open to graduate students with a master’s degree, or equivalent, in their chosen field. Deadline: 30 April 2020.

    The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in partnership with the School of Arts, Porto will provide a residency to an international artist or curator to develop their work for a period of three months, between September and December 2020. Work developed in residency should bear some relation to the course areas of the school: Film, Music, Sound, Photography, New Media, Heritage and Conservation. Deadline: 30 April 2020.

  • News / Europeana > Support for European Heritage Institutions to use Technology to Open up Collections

    The European Commission has issued a call to support cultural heritage institutions to open up their collections, apply technological innovations, and make best use of the Europeana heritage platform in their public activities. Proposals for the call must address both objectives of content aggregation and use of innovative technologies. The call also strongly encourages applications with a focus on highly accurate 3D models (such as monuments, buildings and museum objects). Deadline (extended): 25 June 2020.

    Cultural Heritage in Action is currently calling for submissions of good practices – whether policies, projects, events or organisational structures – developed by local and regional authorities from the 27 European Union countries. These will be featured in an online catalogue. Later in the year the Cultural Heritage in Action project will be organising peer-learning visits in cities around Europe, drawing on those featured in the catalogue. Deadline: 27 March 2020.

    The fifth edition of Film:ReStored, a festival dedicated to film heritage, will take place 27 October – 1 November 2020 at the Filmhaus in Berlin. The event will have a European focus, exploring challenges and solutions for European archives and film heritage institutions. The organisers invite proposals for lectures, workshop reports and film programmes from applicants in EU member states. Deadline: 1 April 2020.

  • News / 33rd SIBMAS Conference > Call for papers: ‘Performing the future: Institutions and politics of memory’

    The 33rd SIBMAS Conference will take place 2-5 June 2020 in Warsaw, and focus, among other things, on the issue of theatre heritage institutions and the politics of memory – what narratives do we need and for what purpose? It will address also the topic of ecology in the library, archive, and museum simply because few issues are more pressing in today’s world. The organisers are inviting proposals for papers to be given at the conference (max 20 mins presentation time), with grants available for individuals with no other institutional support.   • News / 5th African World Heritage Youth Forum

    The 5th African World Heritage Youth Forum, an event focusing on Youth, Entrepreneurship and Heritage Sustainability in Africa, will take place 28 April – 5 May 2020 at Robben Island, South Africa. Applicants should be an African citizen between the ages of 18 – 35, with at least a post-secondary certified training and/or qualification. They should also be fluent in English and able to communicate in at least one of the other three official languages of the African Union (French, Portuguese and Arabic). Deadline: 23 February 2020.
