Kunstkommission Düsseldorf: Commission for Art in Public Space 2026 (Germany)

Title of the call with a skyline of a contemporary city.

The Düsseldorf Art Commission invites applications for ‘stadt.raum.experimente’ (city.space.experiments), an annual open competition promoting contemporary art in public space.

The programme explores how artistic engagement with urban space can contribute to the identity of Düsseldorf and its districts. Projects must be temporary, publicly accessible, as barrier-free as possible, and provide added value for the city’s community.

Support is given to projects by individual artists, groups, or non-profit associations acting as project sponsors. Eligible applicants include artists and collectives working across contemporary artistic disciplines, provided projects are realised in Düsseldorf’s public space. Members of the Art Commission are excluded from applying.

Jury sessions take place within six weeks of the deadline, and contracts are agreed between the city and selected artists.

Contributions may receive up to 60,000 EUR (gross), with co-funding allowed but not required.
