EXIS: InDANCE Residency for Disabled and Non-Disabled Dancers (Greece)

EXIS now has an open call for five Europe-based disabled and non-disabled dancers (A&CPs) to participate in the InDANCE residency project to be held in Athens, Greece, from 2 March to 30 April 2025.

‘InDANCE: exploring accessibility through Inclusive DANCE’ seeks to unite five individuals from diverse European backgrounds, each possessing expertise in inclusive dance, to collaborate with the EXIS team. The aim is to choreograph collectively an open-air inclusive performance cantered around the theme of ‘Accessibility in Town’.

Instead of adopting a traditional static approach, performance will dynamically navigate various urban spaces around Athens, inviting audiences on a journey that underscores the importance of accessibility in public environments. Additionally, accessibility will serve as a fundamental aspect of the performance’s content. The project will explore accessibility as an artistic tool, i.e. how artistic elements such as sound, rhythm, and interactive engagement can enhance accessibility. The goal is to showcase how these creative techniques can make the performance accessible without relying on conventional technical aids like narration.

Prior to the arrival of A&CPs in Athens, some preparatory virtual meetings will take place in order to facilitate the exchange of ideas and ensure the adequate preparation.

The residency provides accommodation, working space, daily allowance (25 EUR per day), travel expenses (350 EUR – 700 EUR), cultural exchange and mentorship. Top-ups are available if applicable (Disability support, Family top-up, Green mobility top-up).
