For the fourth edition of Art Here, Louvre Abu Dhabi is calling on contemporary artists from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and North Africa (nationals and residents) working in sculpture and audio-visual installations suitable for outdoor spaces, to become part of its universal story. Louvre Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with Richard Mille, aims to support art practitioners in the region by giving them a central platform for expression in Art Here 2024.
This year the theme is ‘Awakening’. The question asked to the artists who will be involved in the exhibition is to translate the concept of openness into visual forms. How to enter this millennium with a language that, anchored in a particular soil, will find echoes across the world. How to remain opened to the unavoidable questions raised by the present and by the near future.
Taking place outdoors and under the dome, the total available exhibition area of 1780 m2 is comprised of the paved 1200 m2 and 580 m2 on water. The submitted artwork could either be a sculpture, projection, or an installation with no restrictions to size. It is recommended to consider materials that can withstand the outdoor environment.
This year only submissions for artworks to be produced will be accepted. Moreover, the artwork will have to be ready by 1 August 2024, if the artwork is produced outside the UAE and by the 2 September 2024 for the installation of the exhibition.
Individuals, duos, collectives, or groups may participate. Along with a concept of the proposed artwork and technical specifications, artists should outline their sustainability methodology in terms of materials or production preferred, with the use of UAE-based fabricators highly recommended.
There is a provisional budget for artwork production and installation capped at 100,000 AED. This budget should be inclusive of artist travel and accommodation for install and opening (one week in Abu Dhabi).
