Canopia Coop is calling for applications for their 90-day residency for 3 international artists at La Surera (Almedíjar, a village of fewer than 300 inhabitants in Castellón, Spain), a rural community culture hub, from 15 September to 13 December 2026.
Within the LANAR residency programme (Open Laboratory of Rural Narratives), the project is conceived as a space for exploration and connection to rethink ways of cohabiting in rural areas: listening to and gathering memories, knowledge and stories from the territory, contrasting worldviews, and building cultural bridges between local communities and new residents. It will combine research time, exchange with Cinctorres, a rural municipality linked to Almedíjar for comparison of rural realities, and artistic production with community mediation.
The output will be three site-specific artistic pieces/devices, two public moments (open studio and final presentation), and process documentation (digital record/map/living archive).
It is open to the visual arts, action/performance, and/or cultural heritage, for artists and cultural professionals residing in Creative Europe countries (except Spain).
La Surera’s facilities are accessible and adapted, including a lift, accessible circulation and entrance areas, and adapted bathrooms and showers. The cooperative’s team is also experienced in hosting and supporting people with disabilities.
