Mire: Creation Residency for Cinematic Performances for Urban Landscapes (France)

A hand-turned film projector casts a white square on the side of a grubby white van.

In the context of the European project SPECTRAL, Mire, an organisation dedicated to experimental cinema and the moving image, is launching an open call for a one-month residency (10 June -7 July 2024), dedicated to the creation of cinematic performances for urban spaces that utilise the film medium.

The residency is for groups of 2-3 people and will be held in the Breil-Malville neighbourhood, located in the north-west of Nantes, France. Breil-Malville is a working-class district, built in the sixties to house people repatriated from Algeria, and is today listed as a priority district.

With this call Mire are looking to support the exploration of new territories within analogue cinema. Thus, they will be particularly attentive to the applications of people of plural identities and from provenances under-represented in the worlds of art and/or experimental film.

At the end of the residency, Mire will encourage a public exchange or performance showing. This showing could also be held during Lolab’s M.I.A.M ! festival. M.I.A.M! (Manifestation d’Interet Artistique Mangeable – Manifestation of edible artistic interest) is an event at the crossroads of culinary and artistic creation, held in the garden of the 38Breil centre and in different locations around the neighbourhood.

More covers:

  • Cost of transport up to 400 euros per person (flexible in exceptional cases).
  • Artist fees: 1500 euros per person.
  • Production budget: 3000 euros.
  • Accommodation will be provided to the residents during the entire length of the residency.
