Kultur Ensemble: Atelier Panormos – La Bottega Residency for Artists From Germany and France (Italy)

Kultur Ensemble logo - two words of name on either side of a multicoloured, swirly sphere.

Three times a year, for a duration of three months, Atelier Panormos – La Bottega hosts artists from Germany and France for art residencies dedicated to research, production and artistic creation. The next residencies run 15 September – 15 December 2022, 15 January 2023 – 15 April 2023, and 30 April 2023 – 30 July 2023.

Atelier Panormos - La Bottega is a programme run by the Franco-German cultural institute Kultur Ensemble. The Institut Français and Goethe-Institut, both of which have been residing in the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa since 2002, organise this new cultural institute in Palermo. The programme is sponsored by the OFAJ/DFJW, the Franco-German Youth Office.

The Italian-Franco-German art residency will be firmly set in Palermo, a city located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, which, for centuries, has been a crossroads of different civilisations and cultures. In the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa, a former industrial site transformed into a space of cultural production, the scholarship holders will have access to a shared workspace (La Bottega) and the opportunity to immerse themselves in a dense network of local and international cultural actors and institutions.

The programme offers:

  • One return journey between the artist’s home base and Palermo.
  • A grant amounting to €1500 per month for a duration of three months.
  • Accommodation in the Butera Palace located in Via Butera 8 in Palermo, with access to a kitchen shared with other scholarship holders in the field of artistic production and research.
  • Access to a shared workspace of approx. 115 m2, the Atelier Panormos – La Bottega in the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa.
  • Contribution to costs relating to artistic production amounting to up to €3000 for the entire duration of the stay.
  • Logistic and linguistic support in making contacts in the local art scene.
  • Support in organising events, should the residents wish to exhibit their work during or towards the end of their stay.

The Atelier Panormos – La Bottega residency is aimed at both artists working individually, and artists working in collaborative forms (art collectives), within the following fields: fine arts or performance art, literature, cinema, dance, theatre, music, aesthetics and philosophy of art, humanities and social sciences. For artist groups consisting of more than one person who wish to apply, the specific modalities will be determined in consultation with those in charge at KULTUR ENSEMBLE Palermo.

Applicants to the programme should be French/German citizens or French/German residents for at least five years. If these specific criteria are not met, the panel may consider applicants who can provide proof of a strong bond or affiliation with either of the countries organising the residency programme.
