Imagining Godzilla is looking for short-term, residential projects to be carried out onboard the sailing catamaran Godzilla in the Baltic Sea during summer 2025.
Since 2019 they have hosted over 50 artists on board, with projects varying from short film shootings to underwater performances and surveying blue algae blooms out at sea.
Those with a project centred around the Baltic Sea’s nature and ecology or the developing geopolitical situation, or those who think their artistic work would benefit from a period onboard Godzilla, can apply. There are no restrictions on the type of artistic or scientific projects that can be proposed.
Godzilla is a mobile platform for undertaking artistic and other forms of research that are appropriate for a sailing vessel. The shallow draft (less than 1m) allows the boat to get close inshore. Under sail, the boat cruises comfortably at between 6 to 8 knots. The twin-hulled catamaran form provides a wide and stable platform underway, at anchor, or in harbour for various types of activity.
Summer 2025 Godzilla will be sailing from Finland via Kalmar and Malmö in Sweden, to Denmark and along the German coast, and visiting the Estonian island of Ruhnu and the ex-Soviet military harbour at Paldinski during our return to Helsinki. The trip is divided into legs, each leg can accommodate between one or two artists/researchers in addition to the crew.
Participants are expected to join in as part of the crew, taking turns with cooking, cleaning, etc., entering into the spirit of communal living and learning, being generous to each other, sharing space, time, and resources. Each participant will join for between 2–4 days, depending on the leg they choose.
Accommodation and food is provided onboard Godzilla. All participants receive a 250 EUR participation fee and a sum of 250 EUR towards travel expenses.
