Goethe Institut: Reframing Family Residency 2026 for Female Identifying Photographers from Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary and Tamil Nadu (Bulgaria, Hungary, India)

Title of the call on coloured circles.

This residency (19 January to 7 February 2026) is a platform for international exchange, peer learning, and collaborative growth for Female identifying photographers from Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary and Tamil Nadu (India). The residency takes place in Sofia (Bulgaria), Budapest (Hungary), or Chennai (India).

Participants will engage in a dialogue with fellow photographers, sharing perspectives on feminism and family while building connections that extend beyond the residency. Through joint activities, community engagement, and curated encounters, the programme fosters a supportive environment for creative and critical exchange.

Across cultures and generations, the concept of ‘family’ has been both a site of belonging and a battleground for feminist critique. This residency invites female identifying photographers to explore how family structures and feminist perspectives intersect, clash, and co-evolve. Are feminism and family mutually exclusive? Can family be a source of strength for feminist expression? What kinds of families challenge traditional norms — and how are these stories told through photography?

Following the residency, the works will be exhibited in Sofia in June 2026.

The residency programme covers flights, visa fees, accommodation, a weekly stipend for three weeks residency and production funding.
