    News / Translation in Motion: Open call for Literary Translation Residencies (France, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Sweden, Macedonia, Albania, Latvia, Serbia and UK)

    The Translation in Motion consortium of translation residencies invites applications by literary translators working from or into the languages of the countries of the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia). Translation in Motion is a programme that aims to enrich and intensify the flow of translated literature in contemporary Europe, and specifically between the Western Balkans countries and the EU member states. Applications till 30 April 2021 (check carefully the calls related to each organisation as some deadlines may be before like for Bulgaria).

    Next Page Foundation in Sofia runs a residency programme that aims to connect residents to the Bulgarian literary and publishing field, and to the audiences and cultural life of Sofia. It is currently offering three fellowship for stays of 3-6 weeks, aimed at literary translators and writers of Bulgarian literature.

    News / Kontempora > Artist Residency ‘Reset 2021’ (Bulgaria)

    Organised by Kontempora, RESET 2021 is a 10-day international artist residency programme taking place 4-14 March 2021 in Kyustendil, Bulgaria. The programme will contain theoretical and practical modules, public lectures, online lectures and a final art exhibition. The residency is aimed at emerging artists in the visual arts.

    Gallery +359 is located in the building of a preserved water tower in Sofia, Bulgaria. Its residency programme provides a working stay in Sofia, lasting 2-4 weeks, for a foreign visual artist to create a site-specific project for the water tower space. The residency will take place June / July 2021.

    News / enoa > Immersive Residencies for Artists Without Significant Opera Experience (Belgium, Serbia, Bulgaria, UK, France, Portugal)

    Enoa – the European Network of Opera Academies is organising an immersive residency programme offering support, mentorship and mobility for artists without significant opera experience. There are eight residencies with hosting institutions in six countries. The programme runs February 2021 - May 2022. Applicants should be experienced artists based in Europe who are highly interested in the development of opera creation / interdisciplinary musical and artistic forms but have no significant opera experience.

  • News / Central European Initiative > CEI Award For Writers In Residence 2020

    The CEI Award for Writers in Residence is an award aimed at encouraging cross-border cooperation and promotion in the field of literature for young writers from the CEI Member States (Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine). The award supports the winner to make a one-month stay in a CEI Member State of their choosing, anytime in 2021. Writers from all genres under the age of 35 from the CEI Member States are eligible. Deadline: 15 June 2020.

  • News / Ideas Factory > Artist Residency: Radical Imagination for Lively Villages

    Socially engaged artists are invited to join a one-month artist residency in the villages of Deleyna and Sinagovtsi (Vidin, Bulgaria), organised by the project platform Ideas Factory. The residency will take place 1 -30 June 2020. This call is addressed to artists from Europe (including non-EU countries). However, two scholarships covering participation are reserved for Balkan artists who have strong will to participate but limited resources to do so. Deadline: 15 April 2020.

  • News / Elias Canetti Artist Scholarship

    Operated by the International Elias Canetti Society and funded by the Danube Rectors’ Conference, the Canetti Artist Scholarship is aimed at artists from Europe, as well as neighbouring countries in the Western Balkans and Turkey. It supports various different forms of arts: painters, photographers, writers, performance artists, translators, and musicians can all apply. Scholarship holders will receive a residency in Ruse in spring/summer 2020. Deadline: 30 March 2020.
