Artists of any nationality are invited to apply for Platform Dalí’s inaugural open call for residencies at one of its partner scientific institutions, responding to the theme ‘What is real?’
The international open call invites artists from all disciplines to develop a research and creation residency project informed by close engagement with one of Platform Dalí’s partner scientific institutions:
- Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS)
- ICFO – the Institute of Photonic Sciences
- Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC)
- Institute for High Energy Physics (IFAE)
- The ecosystem of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB), including the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) and European Molecular Biology (EMBL) Barcelona
Five artists will be selected; each will undertake a residency at each partner institution.
The 12-month programme is structured in three phases:
- Introductory Visit (up to 3 days)
- On-site Residency (up to 45 days): Residents engage closely with researchers and staff through conversations, laboratory visits, presentations and participation in the daily life of the host institution.
- Research Development and Artistic Production (approximately 10 months): Following the on-site residency, participants continue developing their project through remote dialogue with researchers and ongoing curatorial guidance from Platform Dalí.
Residency periods: February–April 2027; September–November 2027.
Support
- An artist fee of 7,500 EUR
- Access to a production budget of up to 25,000 EUR
- Curatorial support
- Access to the facilities, expertise and research communities of the host institution
- For artists based outside Barcelona, Platform Dalí will cover travel, accommodation, subsistence and travel insurance costs associated with both the introductory visit and the on-site residency, within a predefined budget
For artist collectives, the artist fee, production budget and covered expenses should be shared among members. A maximum of two members of a collective may participate in the introductory visit and on-site residency.
