Cirkus Kolektiv and Festival Split Calling invite artists to ‘This Is Not a Drill’, a 7-day outdoor workshop led by Caterina Moroni, an Italian interdisciplinary artist, director and cultural activist working across participatory practices, public space and contemporary rituals.
The workshop explores the artistic potential of the public space of Split, Croatia, and is held from 18 to 24 October 2026.
‘This is not a drill’ invites artists and curious makers to explore how artistic practices can help us respond to uncertainty and create temporary communities in public space. The group will investigate:
- collective memory and personal stories;
- public and unconventional spaces;
- visible and invisible forms of power;
- listening, observation and attention;
- participation, care and temporary communities;
- artistic action to question, connect and imagine otherwise;
- new rituals, absurd protocols and poetic responses for uncertain times.
The process will culminate in a public opening.
The workshop is open to artists and practitioners from different disciplines who are interested in public space, participatory processes, site-specific creation, artivism and collective forms of research. Workdays include a short shared theoretical or reflective moment at the beginning of a session, followed by practical work outside, in the city and public space.
The maximum number of participants is limited. Selected participants will receive a travel allowance of up to 100 EUR. Cirkus Kolektiv covers the costs of participation fee, accommodation and lunch for the duration of the workshop.
