The Carpintarias de São Lázaro (CSL) cultural centre in Lisbon is calling for music buskers and street musicians to apply for a residency. The goal of the programme is to create ongoing residencies through which artists share their knowledge and experience by realising workshops (on ways to present one’s work to different audiences on the street, the technical aspects of instruments, materials and devices used, etc.).
The residency will last 6-8 weeks with the following structure:

1-2 week period to get to know and explore the city of Lisbon, interacting with different members of the public on the street.

A 3 week period for workshops, partly at CSL, partly on the street, with 2 or 3 groups of maximum 10 people.

1 - 2 weeks dedicated to the production of street concerts and presentations at the cultural centre, where the finalists will receive all the necessary technical support.
CSL offers:

Transportation costs for artists based outside of Lisbon: train or bus trips within Portugal; airplane (round-trip) within Europe up to 300€ or 700€ for outside of Europe (maximum amount whether single artist or duo).

Either accommodation in CSL’s facilities or an allowance of 500€ per month during the course of the residence (maximum amount whether single artist or duo).

The artist will have a work place, with internet access, at CSL.

The CSL team will follow the residency closely, help design the final shows, and take care of communications/promotion.

Any profits from final show’s tickets at the cultural centre will be shared with the artist.
Applications are open to musicians or music-based performers, who are currently or have been for some time acting as street musicians / performers, as a way of life or subsistence.
