Art Moves Africa, the British Council and On the Move are very pleased to present the 2018 edition of the Cultural Mobility Funding Guide for Artists and Cultural Professionals – Africa. The French version of the guide is supported by the Ministry of Culture of France.
The main objective of this cultural mobility funding guide is to provide an overview of the funding bodies and programmes that support the international mobility of artists and cultural operators from Africa and travelling to Africa. It also aims to provide input for funders and policy makers on how to fill the existing gaps in funding for international cultural exchange. In so doing, it hopes to contribute to the development of a more efficient and fair funding system that can ensure more sustainable support of cultural mobility to and from Africa. A total of 128 funding organisations and 195 funding schemes related to Africa are listed in this guide.
The impetus for this guide follows from the recommendations detailed in the UNESCO Global Report 2018 on the implementation of the 2005 Convention on the diversity of cultural expressions. Specifically, the report highlights the importance of fostering fairer access to funding opportunities for artists and cultural workers in the Global South.
Art Moves Africa and On the Move wish to thank the British Council for their support for this 2018 edition, with special thanks to Nadine Patel and Ojoma Ochai. A warm thank you also goes to Lara Bourdin for her research and editing work on the first edition and this updated version. The organisations behind the 2018 edition wish to acknowledge Korea Arts Management Service, which supported the first edition of the guide in 2015.
