TIDAL ArtS: 2026–2027 Residency on Oceans and Water (Portugal, Italy, Finland, Hungary)

Title of the call with an image of coral.

TIDAL ArtS will award four artists, collectives, or creatives a residency along with 50,000 EUR each to co-create artwork in unique locations across Europe in support of EU Mission: Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030.

The Mission focuses on protecting and restoring the health of oceans and waters. TIDAL ArtS seeks those who can combine art, science, and citizen engagement to connect communities with their ocean and waters through innovative artistic expressions and co-creation activities – thereby raising awareness, inspiring change, and promoting action on behalf of the challenges facing our waters.

The residencies are in:

  • São Miguel Island, Azores, Portugal
  • Venice Lagoon, Italy
  • Turku Archipelago, Finland
  • Danube River, Ráckeve, Hungary

Awardees will have until April 2027 to implement and exhibit their projects and actively engage with the public. The length of time spent on site will depend on the needs of both the artist and their project, however, artists should expect to spend at least six full weeks at the residency site over the course of the year.

The project welcomes individual artists, collectives (up to 5 people), and creatives of all types to apply. Applicants should have a portfolio of work that demonstrates their practice and experience (5+ years) relevant to the TIDAL ArtS themes of aquatic ecosystems, aquatic science, and citizen/community engagement through creative means.

Applicants will be asked to create a project with a budget for exactly the value of the 50,000 EUR grant. Travel, community engagement activities, production, material, exhibition, storage, translation, working space, and personal, etc. costs will be eligible for funding. Six weeks of accommodation in each residency location will be provided in addition to the grant.
