As part of a cooperation, the SPIELART Theatre Festival and ARTIST IN RESIDENCE MUNICH, Villa Waldberta, are offering a 3-months long work and research residence from 5 July – 28 September 2022.
The guest artist will live in Villa Waldberta where he/she will carry out his/her work project with the support of the Villa Waldberta team and of SPIELART Theatre Festival. The research content is his/her own choice, but dealing with the thematic lines of the last festival editions – such as (post) colonialism, historiography, climate justice, care, or crossing borders – is desirable. Participation in at least one public event in Villa Waldberta is expected. Beyond that, SPIELART plans to make the work performed in Munich visible (e.g. through a publication, a workshop, a showing or a discussion event).
Every two years in autumn, the international SPIELART Festival presents performances, theatre, dance and visual art at different venues in Munich, accompanied by an extensive programme of discourse and discussions. Since 2017, the focus has been on cooperation with the countries of the African continent. The next festival edition will take place in October/November 2023. SPIELART wants to strengthen and intensify the exchange of international artists with the inhabitants of Munich. SPIELART is an event of Spielmotor München e.V.
Within the scope of the residency programme, the guest artists will receive a monthly stipend of €1200 from the City of Munich. Accommodation with its own kitchen and bathroom is rent-free, the costs for monthly public transport tickets will be reimbursed. Travel expenses to and from Munich will be paid by the SPIELART Theatre Festival. The artist will receive a fee for any events initiated by SPIELART.
