Les Jardins d’Étretat invite artists from around the world to apply for the opportunity to create a site-specific artwork in Normandy, France, to be installed by 10 June 2025 after a 15-day residency (dates scheduled in consultation with the artist).
The residency programme supports the creation of site-specific art that generates a lasting dialogue with the Gardens and their surroundings. Selected artist(s) will be given the opportunity to spend up to 15 days on-site at Jardins d’Étretat. This residency period is designed to allow time for research, the installation of the artwork, and participation in the opening event of the exhibition. The chosen work will remain on display in Jardins d’Étretat until 2027, offering visitors an opportunity to engage with the art piece over several seasons. As part of the programme, artists are encouraged to host at least one public engagement activity — whether it be a workshop, an artist talk, or a critique session — to foster meaningful connections with local audiences.
Artists should plan to produce their works in their own studios and finalise installation on-site. While Jardins d’Étretat do not offer on-site production facilities, the team can help connect artists with local partners and workshops for additional support.
Proposals must carefully consider the natural and environmental conditions of the Gardens. As an open-air, living place, the site is subject to changing weather, uneven terrain, and active gardening practices. Successful proposals will embrace these contextual factors and align with the essence of Jardins d’Étretat as a dynamic and evolving space.
