INACT Festival: Performance Works on the Theme ‘Amalgam’ (France)

A person on stage with arms out-flung and a bare chest, with a projection behind them.

The INACT festival is a meeting of art performance, organised in Strasbourg since 2011. This multidisciplinary event will take place 7–11 May 2025, with several evening and daytime events. Artists from all disciplines are invited to enable projects related to performance in coherence with the theme ‘Amalgam’.

The festival’s 2025 theme alludes to this object, made of sometimes contradictory materials that fill the dental cavities created by caries. An assemblage of metals, a variety of compounds from the same ordeal, a heterogeneous but solid object, this word has multiple definitions: it’s an artifice, an artefact, that gives visual continuity to a discontinuous reality. In accordance with this principle, the INACT association invites artists and performers from all horizons to experiment with the notion of Amalgam.

Field of interests include real time, performance studies, sound art, video performance, poetry, re-enactment, improvisation, dance, culinary art, sound poetry, environment, document, cross-media, statement, urban intervention, augmented and virtual reality, and virtual performances.

The festival will take place in different venues in Strasbourg, in indoor and outdoor spaces. The maximum duration of performances is 20 minutes (in case the performance doesn’t need continuous attention from the audience).

The INACT association also invites artists to propose interventions and workshops suitable for any kind of audience who would like to practice performance art for the first time. This activity could lead to a performance or an exhibition during the festival. Workshops are paid 60 EUR per hour for a maximum of 6h, with 70 EUR budget for materials.

The festival provides a 300 EUR artist fee, travel expenses, accommodation, catering on the performance day and video or photo recording of the artwork.
