Within a context marked by nationalism, climate displacement, and systemic discrimination, AFIELD, Arts of the Working Class, and Framer Framed invite artists, cultural practitioners, and collectives working with communities affected by human rights violations to apply for a 10,000 EUR grant and a six-month fellowship.

The Transitional Justice with Artists (TJA) programme supports six Europe-based artists or practitioners with initiatives that engage deeply with truth, memory, repair, and accountability, to imagine justice beyond legal frameworks.

Transitional Justice is traditionally viewed through the lens of legal and institutional frameworks designed to address human rights violations. However, as South African constitutional judge Albie Sachs argued, culture—poetry, cinema, theatre, and music—is essential for imagining a new society.

There are two cohorts: July–December 2026 and May–October 2027.

Applicants must be:

  • Legal residents (including refugees/asylum seekers) in an EU Member State or Creative Europe associated country.
  • Part of an initiative operationally active for at least two years.
  • Using artistic methodologies as the central component of their work.
  • Available for all fellowship components, including the residency and online thematic meetings.

Six selected practitioners will enter a six-month fellowship. It includes:

  • 10,000 EUR per fellow (9,000 EUR unrestricted funding + 1,000 EUR for travel).
  • Joining AFIELD’s international network of 140+ socially engaged artists.
  • A published feature in the artistic street newspaper Arts of the Working Class (print run 70,000+).
  • A seven-day residency at Framer Framed in Amsterdam to connect with local practitioners and policymakers.
  • Active participation in regular, thematic meetings online during the six-month fellowship.

The Open Call is limited to the first 500 submissions.
