    News / on-the-fly: Live Coding Research Residencies (Spain, Germany, Slovenia, Netherlands)

    The Creative Europe project on-the-fly will award three grants to develop research projects involving live coding practices. The residencies will be hosted by one of the partner institutions: Hangar, ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, Creative Coding Utrecht, and Ljudmila Art and Science Laboratory. Each residency will last between 3 weeks and 1 month. The time-periods will depend on the needs of the project as well as the place where they are carried out.

    IKOB – Museum of Contemporary Art in Eupen, Belgium and Greylight Projects – platform for art and culture in Heerlen, The Netherlands are launching an open call for a residency of three months (September-November 2021). The residency takes place in the framework of the 2021 Very Contemporary project, a network between different art spaces and museums in the border region of the Euregio-Meuse-Rhine. Artists based in either the Netherlands, Belgium or Germany are invited to apply.

    EMX’s Music Export programme will engage a group of 45 music industry professionals including 15 exporters, to come together and explore cutting edge methods of music export, from new funding models to digital collaboration, mentoring to job shadowing, while also examining the challenges faced by artists from across Europe when trying to export their music worldwide. The programme is open to applicants who work in music export, are based in the EU, speak fluent English and want to help design the music export programmes of the future.

    The Summer Sessions are short-term international art and technology residencies for emerging artists and designers. Artists and designers working with art and technology are eligible to apply if they are under the age of 35 and/or have graduated within the past five years, and live in a country where there is a Summer Sessions sponsoring partner (Netherlands, Taiwan, Spain, Austria, Russia, China, South Korea, Croatia and Belgium). Each Summer Sessions residency lasts approximately eight weeks and takes place between July and September.

    CROWD is a dance residency programme developed together with European partners in a time when international sharing and human togetherness is needed more than ever. It aims to support dance artists with an established practice in community engaged dance making. Participating artists will take part in a series of residencies in Germany, Finland, the Netherlands and the UK in the second half of 2021.     Dutch festival Dancing on the Edge are calling a new generation of contemporary dancers from the MENA region for the Dancing on the Edge Scholarship Programme. Dancing on the Edge (DOTE) offers scholarships to young talent from the MENA region to attend a three-week summer dance workshop programme. In 2021, there will be an online programme, and an offline one if conditions allow for travel.

    Greylight Projects residency programme is launching an open call for a residency of 2 months (March-April 2021) in Heerlen, the Netherlands. This open call is addressed to artists based in the EUREGIO. The EUREGIO is a cross-border region between the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. The artist needs to be settled in this geographical area to apply for the residency, no matter his/her nationality. The residency is intended for artists working in visual arts or cross-disciplinary practices.

    ‘on-the-fly’ is a Creative Europe project, led by Hangar in partnership with ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, Ljudmila and Creative Coding Utrecht, committed to supporting the development of European live coding practices. The current open call will award 8 grants and accompanying residencies to develop artistic productions involving live coding practices. Each residency will last from 15 days to 1 month (schedule tbc). Researchers, artists, developers and members of collectives of all ages (over 18 years old) and nationalities working in the field of live coding can apply.
