Busan Metropolitan City invites individuals and teams from around the world to propose a site-responsive work of land and ecological art for Eulsukdo, an estuarine island at the mouth of the Nakdong River, South Korea’s longest river.
Situated within a brackish estuary where the river meets the sea, Eulsukdo is an important stopover for migratory birds travelling along the East Asian–Australasian Flyway. The island was once heavily altered by agriculture, landfill and urban development, but it has since been restored as wetlands and migratory bird habitats. This layered history invites reflection on coexistence between human and more-than-human life.
The Open Call seeks original proposals that respond to Eulsukdo’s ecology, landscape, history and changing environment, while minimising ecological disturbance and demonstrating environmental responsibility throughout the work’s lifecycle.
The project will be completed and opened to the public from May to June 2027. No on-site construction or artwork installation is permitted during the peak migratory bird arrival period (November through February).
Individuals or teams who are professionally active in art, landscape architecture, architecture, design or related fields can apply. Interdisciplinary teams are welcome.

- Artwork Support: 380,000,000 KRW (Support covering all aspects of artwork production, implementation, installation, stays, etc.)
- Artist fee: 20,000,000 KRW
- Additionally, each artist/team invited to the second-round presentation review will receive a presentation honorarium of 1,000,000 KRW.
