Rupert/Sonic Acts: ALTERLIFE Residency 2026–27 in Response to the Climate Emergency (Lithuania, Netherlands)

Title of the call on a dark coloured background.

Rupert (Vilnius) and Sonic Acts (Amsterdam) have announced the open call for the second edition of ALTERLIFE, a joint production and research residency that invites interdisciplinary artists and collectives to develop bold, process-driven work in response to the escalating climate emergency and the conditions it exposes.

This residency supports the development of a new artwork over a three-month period, split between Vilnius and Amsterdam, and culminates in the production of a new commission. During the residency, artists are expected to share their research and work-in-progress through a public presentation in each location. This may take the form of a lecture, performance, sound or field walk, screening, or other format suited to the artist’s practice.

Timeline:

  • Residency p. 1 – Rupert, Vilnius, Lithuania: April – May 2026
  • Residency p. 2 – Sonic Acts, Amsterdam, the Netherlands: November 2026
  • Presentations – The final exhibition or presentation at Rupert is scheduled between late 2026 and 2027; the presentation in Amsterdam will take place during the Sonic Acts Biennial in early 2028.

This residency welcomes all Europe-based (EU member states, eligible non-EU countries participating in the Creative Europe Programme and countries under the European Neighbourhood Policy) artists to submit their proposals. They encourage individual artists or duos who take a multidisciplinary approach, particularly practices which incorporate sound and video.

Support

  • A combined 3-month residency at Rupert and Sonic Acts, with fully-funded stays, including accommodation and workspace
  • Stipend and travel: 3,800 EUR total for the combined residency, and up to 400 EUR travel support for each location.
