Open Sound is an innovative project in the music production and live music field which brings together two historic festivals in Italian towns: Metaponto Beach in Bernalda, and Pollino Music in San Severino Lucano.
As part of the project, the 2021 Open Sound Academy is looking for music producers who want to challenge themselves to experiment and co-create in order to create new sound visions.
The challenge is to recode ancestral sounds electronically, by creating an unpublished track from a repertoire of open source sounds. Participants will be requested to produce an original track based on the sound samples belonging to the rituals of the Lucanian tradition (bagpipes, cowbells, cupa cupa) collected in the OSA Library, developed during the Open Sound Festival in the framework of the Matera European Capital of Culture 2019 official programme.
The OSA call winner (the OSA Producer) will take part in the 2021 Open Sound Academy edition, promoted by Multietnica Association in collaboration with Sugar Music. The winner will have the opportunity to live a unique experience in co-designing and co-creating a live show called OSA 2.1 in close collaboration with the 2021 Guest Producers, Mattia Barro ‘SPLENDORE’ and Marco ‘FORESTA’ from the IVREATRONIC collective as well as Matilde Ferrari aka PLASTICA.
The three Guest Producers and OSA Producer, led by Alioscia Bisceglia (Casino Royale) as the Open Sound Ambassador, will take part in an artistic residency in Basilicata from 23-29 August 2021, in order to work on the production of the OSA 2.1 live show. The show preview – which will also include the participation of musicians of the Lucanian tradition – will be staged on 28 August 2021 in San Severino Lucano, in the Pollino National Park as part of the 25th edition of the Pollino Music Festival. Finally, in November 2021, the participants will perform OSA 2.1 during Milan Music Week, within the Linecheck Music Meeting and Festival programme.
The call is addressed to all the citizens from the European Union between 18 and 35 years old. Travel and accommodation costs are covered by the organisers.
