Music in Africa Foundation: Grants for Showcases, Capacity Building and Music Advocacy

Open call graphic - text announcing grants for African performers, managers, event organisers and educators.

The Music In Africa Foundation is inviting music industry practitioners based in Africa to apply for grants from its recently launched Music In Africa Live (MIAL) project, which aims to support musicians and the industry at large to navigate challenges and new realities introduced by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The main goal of Music In Africa Live (MIAL) is to enable musicians to earn income from digital live performances at a time when many of them have lost their usual income due to the pandemic. The other focus of the project is to develop critical skills among professionals with a view to enable them to navigate challenges occasioned by the pandemic.

There are three grant strands:

  • Showcase grants: The showcase grants will support the production of high-quality digital live concerts, with an emphasis on professional productions that offer real exposure, potential export opportunities and generally more opportunities for participants (musicians and audience).
  • Capacity-building grants: The capacity-building grants support digital initiatives that develop relevant critical skills for music professionals to navigate the new challenges and the transformations of the industry, especially those introduced by the pandemic.
  • Music advocacy grants: This category funds projects that conduct advocacy aimed at protecting the interests of musicians through the creation of relevant content. It offers an opportunity for musicians who are not often heard to raise their voices and creatively package their actions in compelling formats that reach wider audiences.

Grant amounts range from 6000 – 10,000 EUR.

Projects applied for must take place in Africa and be completed by 30 December 2021. The applicant (company/organisation) must also be based in Africa.
