Jan van Eyck Academie: Future Materials Fellowships 2026 (Netherlands)

Title of the call with metallic and material-type substances.

In the framework of the Future Materials programme and in collaboration with Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, the Jan van Eyck Academie opens a call for two Future Materials Fellowships 2026 supporting artists and designers working with sustainable and regenerative practices. The fellowship period runs from 15 January to 15 December 2026.

This call is part of the Future Materials programme at Jan van Eyck, which promotes environmentally conscious art and design practices and disseminates knowledge on sustainable non-toxic materials and regenerative relations with environments. The new call encourages projects exploring methods and practices that investigate the regenerative potential of waste, challenging dominant views of discarded materials.

The selected Fellows will be supported by the different Labs at the Jan van Eyck Academie: Future Materials, Material Matters, Food, Printing & Publishing, Photography & Audiovisual, and the library. Moreover, the selected candidates will be immersed in a community of 35-40 international artists, designers, curators, writers, and other creative minds, sharing perspectives on the complexities of a world in transition. Fellows are expected to reside in Maastricht or within 10 km during the period.

Applicants should be practising artists, designers, or creative practitioners with experience in material research, who understand chemical composition and behaviours of their materials and have critical awareness of their histories and contexts. The application fee is waived for applicants from and living in the Least Developed Countries, Low Income Countries and Lower Middle Income Countries and Territories on the DAC list for ODA recipients.

Selected fellows will receive a monthly stipend of 1,750 EUR (80% exempt from income tax) and a working budget of 2,250 EUR. They gain access to a private studio, in-house labs, advisor support, participation in the public programme, and institutional resources.
