Integrated in the official programme of Imaginarius – International Street Theater Festival of Santa Maria da Feira, Mais Imaginarius is a section that aims to give space to emerging artists willing to show their work, through a competition for artistic creations made specifically for public space.
The competition challenges artists to present proposals that address the public space in its most diverse perceptions, testing formats and models, towards the construction of plural identities. In a dialogue between contemporary artistic creation and public space, it seeks experimentation, exploring new connections between different languages and cultural/natural heritage. Mais Imaginarius receives applications from artists and collectives from all over the world.
Artists and companies applying to Mais Imaginarius 2022 must be available for performances between 26-29 May 2022, during the time period of the festival. Eligible disciplines are theatre, dance, music, circus, performance, intervention, installation, new media, graffiti, magic and multidisciplinary forms
The organisers provide travel expenses of 400 Euros for artists and companies from Iberian Peninsula and from Madeira and Azores; 700 Euros for artists and companies from the rest of Europe; 1000 Euros for artists and companies from other continents. Food and accommodation is also provided for the whole artistic team between 26-29 May 2022.
All artistic projects selected for presentation at Imaginarius are also eligible for a final award, decided by a jury. This will provide a creative residency, in Santa Maria da Feira, to develop a new performance, to be premiered at the 2023 edition of Imaginarius, and a grant of €5000.
