TWAIN Dance Production Center and Artistic Residency, under the direction of Loredana Parrella, announces the call for the 10th edition of the ‘TWAIN direzioniAltre’ Prize, with support for production, artistic residency and circulation for dance artists under 40.
All Italian and European artists who have not turned 36 by 31 December 2026 are invited to participate; in the case of multiple artists, two-thirds of them must be under 40 years old.
Contemporary dance projects that are in the development phase and have not yet premiered in their full form, but only in study form, are eligible. Up to six projects will be selected and presented in their staged form (no less than 5 minutes and no more than 15 minutes) to a panel of experts and professionals at the Supercinema in Tuscania (VT) as part of the direzioniAltre Festival programme on 22 August 2026 (closed to the panel only) and on 23 August 2026 (open evening and award ceremony).
The winning project will receive production support for the 2026/2027 season as follows:
- Artistic Residency within Twain Artistic Residency at the Twain theatre spaces in Tuscania and Canino for a total of 10 days to be held in the period January-August 2027 with a financial contribution from a minimum of 1,500 EUR to a maximum of 7,000 EUR gross;
- Scheduling of a repeat performance in the 2027 Twain Centro di Produzione Danza season with a fee of up to 1,200 EUR + VAT;
- Scheduling of a repeat performance at the Mirabilia 2027 Festival with methods and timing to be agreed with the Artistic Direction of the Festival;
For the finalists:
- Finalists will receive a fee of 200 EUR for solos, 300 EUR for duets, and 400 EUR for trios and quartets, as well as accommodation;
- One of the finalist projects may be selected and included in a Residency with an open rehearsal within the Orbita/Spellbound – National Dance Production Center programme;
- One or more finalist projects may be included in the 2027 programme of the AreaDanza_urban dance festival Udine under the artistic direction of the Arearea company;
- One or more finalist projects may be included in the 2027 programme of the Egri Foundation, a Center of Relevant Interest for Dance;
- One or more Finalist projects may be included (with the version presented for the Twain Prize) in the Dominio Pubblico – Youth Fest programme which will take place in Rome in June/July 2027, with the same economic conditions that will be recognised to the authors for the Twain_direzioniAltre Prize finals;
- One of the finalist projects will have the opportunity to participate in a residency programme at the Teatro di Bucine/Diesis Teatrango.
