Open Sites is a cross-border cooperation between three territories on either side of the French-Belgian border: Ypres, Comines-Warneton, and Villeneuve d’Ascq.
The project now seeks submissions from artists or groups (max. 3 people) who would like to undertake a residency at one of the sites and create original work that responds to the place and an accompanying theme:
Entre-Lacs, France (30 May – 2 July 2022): working in the chain of lakes in Villeneuve d’Ascq to create on-site work that is aquatic, aerial, or non-terrestrial.
Sporen, Belgium (5 September – 2 October 2022): working on and around Ypres’ city walls between the Menin Gate and the Lille Gate to create an original work of art based on the historic landscape.
Courts-Circuits (19 September – 9 October 2022): working in Comines-Warneton to create an original work of art focusing on local shops.
Selected projects will receive a stipend of €1250 paid after the event. The organisers also cover accommodation and breakfast and lunch during each creation week.
