Leipzig International Art Programme: Residency for Visual Artists from Eswatini, Lesotho and South Africa (Germany)

Open call: Artists from Eswatini, Lesotho and South Africa for a visual arts residency in Leipzig.

The German Embassy Pretoria and LIA - Leipzig International Art Programme invite artists from Eswatini, Lesotho and South Africa to apply for a three-month residency exchange in Leipzig, Germany.

The residency will take place at a studio provided by LIA - Leipzig International Art Programme, a 14 year old non-profit residency programme that has supported over 400 artists from 40 nations internationally by providing them with spacious studios and cultural support, as well as opportunities to experiment and exhibit at the Spinnerei Leipzig, a former cotton mill founded in 1884 and once the largest cotton mill on the European continent.

The residency will run 1 November 2023 - 30 January 2024 and provides:

  • Free accommodation in an 83 square meter furnished studio incl. curated group show in the residency.
  • Coverage of travel and flight, visa and health insurance costs.
  • Fellowship 760 EUR per month.
  • Curatorial advice by LIA director Anna-Louise Rolland.
  • Group show mid-January 2024 during the Spinnerei Gallery Tour.

Applying artists must speak comprehensible English and come from and be based in Eswatini, Lesotho or
South Africa.
