La Volière: Residency for Emerging Aerial Artists to Join the Project MIXCity (France)

La Volière art centre in Saint-Nazaire, France is calling for five emerging aerial artists (aged 18-30) to become part of the aerial art project MIXCity, a European funded project under the Creative Europe programme.

The project offers a two-month residency (25 May – 24 July 2024) at La Volière during which the five artists will take part in a collaborative creative process which will culminate in a public performance showcased at the music festival LES ESCALES in July 2024. Local audiences from different backgrounds will be invited to take part in the creative process in collaboration with the selected artists.

Saint-Nazaire is a peripheral industrial city, located by the sea with a long history related to slavery and one of the biggest shipbuilding industries in Europe, a city with people from all over the world.

Parallel to the collaborative project, the five artists will be supported in their individual creative path through individual residency time, mentoring sessions and networking activities. The project is expected to provide the 5 selected emerging aerial artists with a first experience in an international creative project, that will give them visibility on their artistic work but also to provide them with resources to: reflect on their practice, exchange with their peers and create long terms relations to build their professional network outside of their country of residence.

La Volière will provide the selected artists with a shared accommodation where they will have access to a private bedroom and shared areas. Selected artists will receive a €350 (up to 5000km) or €700 (5000km+) mobility grant, with extra top-up funding for green travel over longer distances, travel to or from overseas countries and territories or outermost regions, visa expenses, artists with children below the age of 10, or disabled artists needing access support. Selected artists also receive an allowance of €25 per day.

Applicants must be individual young emerging artists (18-30) engaged in a professional path in aerial arts with a contemporary aesthetic. Applicants must also come from one of the countries of the Creative Europe program (except France).

Only the first 50 applicants will be retained for a first round of selection.
