Solo Dance Contest is an annual international competition that aims to support dancers and to promote understanding of contemporary dance. The contest is held from 26 to 30 August 2024 in Gdansk, Poland, as a part of the international Gdańsk Dance Festival, an event that gathers dancers, choreographers and dance companies from all over the world.
The competition is for dance solos that are autonomous performances, that have premiered between 1 January 2023 and 3 May 2024 or are prepared especially for the Solo Dance Contest 2024 (premiere will take place during the competition), and that are 5–20 mintues long.
The competition is addressed to all professional dancers of contemporary dance (Polish and international) with documented artistic activity and/or professional dancers with a diploma of dance studies who are at least 18 years old.
A total of 5,500 EUR will be divided between three prizes. There is also an audience award of 500 EUR, as well as an invitation to present the submitted solo in front of an audience of the 16th Gdańsk Dance Festival.
The organiser will cover the travel costs of dancers qualified for the competition (via train or bus within Poland or a return trip up to 180 EUR for those travelling internationally). Accommodation in hostel rooms and one meal a day are also provided.
