Ezzat Ezzat Contemporary Dance Studio: Contemporary Dance Night Residency Programme 2024 (Egypt)

The Contemporary Dance Night (CDN) team announces the launch of a call for choreographers to present proposals for a two-month residency in Egypt, between early October and mid-December 2024, working with Egyptian dancers, ending with public sharing of new creations to be presented in Cairo, Alexandria and Upper Egypt.

CDN is an independent contemporary dance event that aims to familiarise and develop the art of contemporary dance in Egypt. The event is a series of live dance pieces (new creations and reshowcasing), dance videos, seminars, workshops and various activities, all under the same umbrella. The team of CDN share together the belief that contemporary dance is a means for self-expression within the current challenging political, social, and cultural context.

In this call, choreographers from Egypt and partnered countries are invited to apply with their new concepts/creations projects, for a two months residency program in Cairo, Alexandria or El-Minya in Egypt, where they will work with Egyptian dancers/artists, as well as a modest production grant, to realise these productions. Around six to eight artists will be selected for this residency. The proposed concept/creation performance must not exceed 30 minutes, including the set-up of the stage.

The organisers are looking for young and mid-career contemporary dancers and choreographers residing in Egypt, Europe, America and the Arabic region, preferably with previous experience in artistic projects/spaces management and teaching.

For all foreign artists not residing in Cairo, all costs are covered including travel expenses, accommodation, rehearsal space and pocket money during the whole period, with a possibility of small compensation fees, depending on the corresponding entity fund that is supporting the artist.
