Since 1968, The Studio Museum in Harlem has earned recognition for its catalytic role in advancing the work of visual artists of African and Afro-Latinx descent through its artist in residence programme. The programme has supported over one hundred graduates who have gone on to highly regarded careers. Applications are now open for the 2021 intake.
The Studio Museum in Harlem will offer an eleven-month studio residency – beginning 1 October 2020 and ending 1 September 2021 – for three emerging artists working in any media. The residency awards each artist a stipend of $20,000, paid out on a regular schedule over the course of the year.
The programme is designed to serve emerging artists of African and/or Afro-Latinx descent working locally, nationally, or internationally. Applications are open internationally, but applicants will have to arrange their own visa for their stay in the United States.
