Oulu2026 and Upeart invite professional artists to participate in an open call for visual artists worldwide. This open call for portfolios seeks an artist or team of artists to realise a mural in Rajakylä, Oulu in August 2022.
The mural itself will be part of a series that will be realised in the region between 2022 and 2026, with residents of Oulu voting on the location each year. The first vote has been won by Rajakylä, which will be the location of the realisation for 2022. Inhabitants of the area had the opportunity to share their stories and memories about Rajakylä, which the selected artist can use as a basis for their design work and the realisation.
The selected artist or artist group will be invited to Oulu in August 2022. While in Oulu, the artist or artist group will design and realise the artwork in Rajakylä, with the aim of finishing painting the mural during the first week of September.
The artist invited to create the artwork will receive a fee of 12,000€. The fee includes travel to Oulu and fee for the sketch. Upeart will provide and cover expenses for all needed production during the visit to Oulu and creation of the artwork for the artist. (Lift, paints and other equipment, housing in Oulu etc.)
