Applications are now open for the 2026–2027 Kuonyesha Art Fund, a grant programme supporting socially engaged art projects across Africa. The fund aims to support, promote, and celebrate artists working across diverse disciplines, encouraging creative expression and critical engagement with contemporary social issues.
Projects are assessed based on artistic quality, originality, social relevance, audience engagement, collaboration potential, accessibility, and innovation—especially in underserved or new spaces. Supported disciplines include:
- Music & Dance
- Visual Arts (painting, sculpture, crafts)
- Fashion & Product Design
- Literature & Publishing
- Theatre & Film
- Video, Animation & New Media
- Folklore & Spoken Word
- Arts Research
- Multi-disciplinary & cross-cutting projects
- Exhibitions & arts dissemination
Artists of all ages living and working in Africa can apply, including:
- Established artists or collectives with a proven track record
- Emerging artists exploring new ideas
- Artists seeking support to develop, refine, or expand existing work
- Artists aiming to improve work quality through research, training, or equipment
Applicants must be living in, citizens of, or permanent residents of any African country. All grant award winners must be able to implement their projects within the 2026–2027 cycle.
The funding is up to 5,000 USD per project for partners outside Uganda and 4,000,000 UGX to 20,000,000 UGX for partners in Uganda.
