The Saari Residence in Finland, Northern Europe, is an international artist in residence for professional artists and artist collectives of various fields. The residency is maintained by Kone Foundation and located in Mynämäki, Southwest Finland.
The two-month artist residency periods run from September to April, with eight Saari Fellows staying at the residency at a time. From May to August, the Saari Residence is reserved for intensive group work.
The open call is always for a residency place for the following year. Working periods for the 2-month individual residencies are as follows:
- Period 1: January to February.
- Period 2: March to April.
- Period 3: September to October.
- Period 4: November to December.
Groups may apply to use the residency facilities for 2-4 weeks between mid-May and mid-August.
The individual residency includes an apartment, a workspace and a monthly grant according to the artist’s experience:
- €2500 /month (beginning of career).
- €3000 /month (mid-career, min. 10 years of artistic work).
- €3600 /month (experienced, min. 20 years of artistic work).
For the group residency, each member of a group working in the residence is granted a residence grant, and this is calculated according to the number of weeks they spend there. The sum is 750 euros / week is paid based on the individual residency’s monthly grant category 2 (€3000).
Individuals and groups can also apply for extra support for slow travel.
If the applicant cannot travel on-site to the Saari Residence due to accessibility reasons, they can apply for the Saari Home Residency. The Saari Home Residency is granted only with reasonable grounds for it. The justification for the Saari Home Residency is related to accessibility and equality, such as physical disability, family reasons (e.g. single parent), or the volatile political situation in the country of origin. A person working in a home residency participates in the individual residency remotely.
