The experimental laboratory Gamma_LAB was launched by Gamma Festival and ARTYPICAL art-practice in 2019. The aim of the project is to promote knowledge about modern technologies and facilitate their usage in the field of art and culture, as well as to create unique interdisciplinary projects.
This year’s laboratory, Gamma_LAB XR, will take place 12-22 May 2020. It is dedicated to the whole range of different technologies, known under the common name XR, that are used to create virtual, augmented, hybrid reality and immersive environments. The main idea of the laboratory is to create both new artistic and new technological XR works.
The laboratory takes place in Saint Petersburg. A series of practical and theoretical classes will be supplemented by a public programme. The results of Gamma_LAB XR will be presented in an exhibition as part of Gamma Festival in July 2020. Participants will be involved in creating a collective art project related to the study of augmented reality in the urban environment, which will also be presented at the festival.
The organisers cannot cover the costs of attending the laboratory, but remote participation is possible for those not able to attend in person. The organisers will then select the best Lab participants and provide visa/travel support to attend Gamma festival in July 2020.
The laboratory is designed for media artists, designers, architects, programmers, developers and researchers in the field of XR.
