Peripheral Visions: Artistic Residencies (Italy, Slovenia)

Waving lines with the text Peripheral Visions.

Peripheral Visions is calling for applications from contemporary European professional artists and independent artists (and immigrants in Europe) to apply for a residency and the development of an artwork in the cross-border area between Italy and Slovenia, starting from Gorizia and Nova Gorica and extending the action to other border communities.

The project aims to jointly enhance the wartime-industrial identity of the ‘peripheral location’ of the Italian-Slovenian cross-border area and the heritage of industrial archaeology, creating expertise for the area’s artists and creatives, students and youth, businesses and local administrators. The project plans the genesis of four ‘creative ateliers’ or ‘community hubs’, reusing (or getting inspired) by industrial archaeology places, by mobilising the surrounding community thanks to the artists presence.

Therefore, the selected artists will be asked to come into contact with audiences, through a research agenda co-organised with the tutors, and through a system of events and educational workshops.

The residency will develop over a negotiable period of time (minimum 7 days in presence in the area) and the methods of delivery of the artwork created can be agreed upon. Ultimate scope of the residency is the creation of new artworks and interven- tions which are able to keep the local history in their DNA. The artworks created will remain in the property of IoDeposito (partners of the project, along with University of Nova Gorica). Artworks will be circulated more intensively for the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025.

The project is open to contemporary artists who have worked/are working on the project themes, without limitation in the artistic media used.

The residency will be remunerated with a fee will be paid to each artist, on the basis of the available budget. Transport and overnight stays will be covered by the project, as well as a daily allowance. A budget will be made available for the production of the artwork. Applications from artists with minor children are encouraged.
