Within the framework of an international project supported by Creative Europe, Meet Factory in Prague are looking for visual artists based in Spain and Slovakia who are willing to work in the international context and are interested in working with the dichotomy of centre/periphery with a new and challenging approach. An artist from each country will be invited for a to-month residency from 1 February – 31 March 2023.
The project Other Edges of the World deals with the decolonisation of power structures behind the centre/periphery dichotomy. It proposes to take a closer look at terms such as ‘local’ and ‘central’ and to find out their meaning in the post-pandemic European conditions. Enhancing a network of independent NGOs operating in the field of contemporary art, the project is will provide a platform for in-depth artistic research. Artists will develop in-progress works proposing new metaphors helpful in describing what kind of future we can imagine in these turbulent and cruel times. The artistic endeavour is going to be based on the notion of locality, peripheries, and the better and less-known parts of Europe. The idea is to find a way to build a dialogue that is going to elevate what stays out of the centre and help reconstruct the centre itself.
Selected artists will be provided with:
- Accommodation in a shared apartment.
- Studio space.
- Fee of 700 euros (gross) per month (plus additional fee for the Spain-based artist of 500 euros (gross) per month from hablarenarte).
- Production budget of 200 euros.
- Travel costs.
