Les antípodes, in collaboration with Bòlit, Centre d’art contemporani, Girona, and Museu de l’Empordà, Figueres, opens a new edition of the Numèric residency programme, this year devoted to ‘the word’ and to large language models (LLMs).
The residencies will take place 2–30 November 2026, coinciding with les Antípodes’ public programme of activities, this year in Agullana and Figueres, Alt Empordà, and in Ceret, Vallespir. The residencies will run simultaneously and will conclude with a public presentation of the work carried out.
This year’s conceptual framework starts from the word as an instrument and material of creation, present in widely differing cultural traditions, in order to question large language models, the systems behind artificial-intelligence tools such as ChatGPT or Claude.
For the first time, these models generate language autonomously, without experience or intention, and raise fundamental questions: what do they mean for authorship, originality, creativity and thought? Numèric invites us to explore them and to engage with them as uncomfortable interlocutors, away from utopian and dystopian discourses, from artistic practice and critical thought.
The Numèric 2026 call will award two research and creation residency grants. It is open to artists, thinkers and scientists of any discipline and origin.
Each selected project will receive funding of 1,000 EUR, in addition to coverage of round-trip travel within the European Union, support and accompaniment, accommodation and meals during the four weeks of the residency.
