Leeds 2023: Broadening Horizons Artist Development Programme for Artists of the Global Majority

Broadening Horizons: An Artist Development Programme.

Leeds 2023 are looking for international and West Yorkshire (UK) based, Global Majority artists with a practice in live performance or creating live artistic experiences (such as interactive installations) to take part in an artist development programme.

Broadening Horizons is an artist development programme led by LEEDS 2023, supported by The British Council, aiming to support Global Majority artists in West Yorkshire and across the world to step into working internationally.

You may have the beginnings of relationships with international partners or be new to collaborating internationally. Leeds 2023 are seeking applications from artists who would benefit from a facilitated programme of peer-to-peer exchange, mentorship, networking and research. Applications should identify why international collaboration is key to your practice and / or development.

The participating artists will follow the programme between October - December 2023, with a mix of online and in-person activities.

Support for participating artists includes a £50 stipend per workshop or peer exchange session, a £250 stipend to undertake professional development of their choosing, and a £750 budget to fund self-directed research into an area of international practice that they would like to explore further (which can include a visit to an international festival).

There is an access budget to support personal access requirements. Access can include (but is not limited to) sign language interpretation, support workers, childcare, support with digital access, and other support that ensures you can participate in the programme. It does not include translation costs.

At least 60% of the international artists selected onto the programme will currently be living in countries which are ODA recipients.
