The European Union Delegation to the United States of America, Washington DC is looking for a full-time Press and Information Officer (Cultural Affairs) in the Press and Public Diplomacy Section.
As a key member of the Press and Public Diplomacy Section, the Press and Information Officer (Cultural Affairs) develops and implements the EU Delegation’s Cultural Diplomacy strategy. The successful candidate will be under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of the Press and Public Diplomacy Section and will be assigned the following tasks and duties:

Develop and implement the EU Delegation’s Cultural Diplomacy Strategy in close cooperation with the rest of the team.

Create and implement current and new outreach projects aimed at raising awareness about the European Union by focusing on issues likely to attract US Citizens’ interest, covering the main policy areas of the EU and especially focusing on the interaction between culture, technology, education and innovation.

Maintain and build upon a network of partnerships with US interlocutors and institutions and facilitate communication with relevant EU institutions.

Cooperate with EU Member States’ embassies and cultural institutes on joint cultural and outreach activities, including exploring options for fundraising and sponsorships.

Design cultural diplomacy and outreach projects both within and beyond the beltway, together with the Delegation’s and EU Member States’ networks (for example, consular offices, EUNIC, Delegation’s grantees etc.).

Design educational outreach projects to bring European culture and policies to Americans of all ages, in partnership with universities, high schools and other educational organisations and interest groups.

Manage supplier contracts and programs that support our outreach and cultural diplomacy efforts.

Advise on outreach activities and speaking engagements of the Delegation’s staff;

Contribute to the preparation of state outreach missions of senior management. Prepare briefings and speaking points for colleagues when participating in outreach and cultural diplomacy related events.
The salary range is dependent on relevant and verified employment experience, typical ranges escalating from $93K (4 years’ experience), $98K (8 years’ experience) etc. and with excellent vacation, health and social insurances and retirement fund benefits. The position has occasionally atypical working hours and travel might be foreseen.
It is important to note that applicants must have an existing US work authorisation that does not require EU sponsorship.
