Cabin Studio is a new international residency space situated in the rural area of Mladá Boleslav, around 50 kilometres north of Prague. It is run under the patronage of an established Prague-based theatre named Studio Hrdinů. The building is a former gamekeeper’s lodge and has a strong history. Its main focus is residencies for sonic artists and musicians/ composers, as the region is strongly connected to the famous Czech classical composer Bedřich Smetana who also lived in the lodge in the 1880s.
Cabin Studio are announcing an open call for three artists who will be encouraged to prepare a composition for the festival Sanatorium Sonorum, which will be held in August 2024 in Cabin Studio Pěčice as a partially open-air event. The residents’ work will be presented as a part of the festival, which consists of new works inspired by the work of Bedřich Smetana. The festival is not limited to a specific music genre or practice. On the contrary, this call seeks musicians whose work may overlap in diverse media and are open to experimental approaches.
The residency will run for 38 days from 1 April – 8 May 2024. Residents will be provided with accommodation, suitable working space, relevant equipment and professional mentoring. The artists must be based in one of the 40 Creative Europe countries including their overseas countries and territories and outermost regions of the European Union.
As a hosting organisation, Cabin Studio cover travel costs (both ways), daily allowance of €25 (to cover food, local transportation, tickets and fees to events organised by the mentors and hosting organization), and a fee of around €1660 (40,000 CZK) brutto. There is additional funding available for green travel, for applicants from outermost regions or overseas country and territories, or for artists with children.
