Akropoditi DanceFest, the 12th International Dance and Performing Arts Festival in Syros, Greece (10 – 20 July 2025), is calling for applications on the theme of ‘Age-fully-present’.
The call focuses on the active presence of the mature body in the performing arts and reaches out to artists who either include older performers in their work on stage or propose projects related to this theme (mature age, the relationship between age and presence in general, and specifically the performing arts, etc.).
In the last five years the Akropoditi Dancefest has been hosting movement and expression workshops addressed to people of mature age, which usually conclude with an open presentation or performance. This year they aim to support and encourage the interaction of artists of different generations and the primary aim is to emphasise the importance of the presence of the body and its exposure, as well as the utilisation of all its expressive means without age limitations.
The participation of older adults is not a prerequisite, however, all proposals should present a clear reference to the concept and purpose of the artistic work and the work itself should meet the current description. Minimum performance duration is 25 minutes.
The festival provides artists with equipment and a lighting and sound expert, accommodation in Syros for two nights, one meal per day from a local cookhouse, and discount vouchers that can be used in cafes and restaurants in Syros. Artist fee ranges from 130 EUR (one-person performance) to 550 EUR (seven or more-person performance).
For the welcomed artists (dancers/performers and choreographers/directors), the Festival can cover the cost of air tickets up to 250 EUR per person (round trip – only international routes). Any further costs ought to be arranged by the artists themselves. The Festival covers the domestic travel expenses of the artists to and from Syros.
