Kepler-452: Convergenze Festival 2026 in Documentary Theatre (Italy)

Title of the festival, dots with lines connecting them, a picture of an urban space with a paddle board.

This open call is for individual artists and companies, Italian and international, who work professionally in contemporary theatre, dance, and performance, and whose work engages with the relationship between theatre and the real world. One show in the festival programme will be chosen through this call, to be performed on 18 September 2026. This call is open to documentary theatre, broadly understood.

In September 2026, Bologna will host a new festival conceived and directed by Kepler-452, called Convergenze. The festival sets out to offer a different way of looking at the reality we live in every day, turning the audience’s attention toward places that go unnoticed, that are pushed aside, that are hard to look at directly, and doing so through theatre.

This call is open to companies and individual artists working professionally in contemporary theatre, dance, and performance — companies, co-ops, informal groups, solo artists, and anything in between. Only shows that already have English or Italian surtitles can apply.

Convergenze provides:

  • A fee of 2,000 EUR (excluding VAT, where applicable), covering artistic fees and all costs tied to staging the show, travel, transport, and any other related expense.
  • Author’s rights coverage
  • Full use of the venue, the Oratorio di S. Filippo Neri in Bologna
  • Technical support during load-in and the performance.
  • Italian surtitles for non-Italian shows, prepared from an existing English version.
  • Promotion as part of the Convergenze programme.
  • Free admission for the audience, by reservation, while seats last.
